Haiku written for or published by David McMurray at the Asahi Haiku Network

Short night
after New Year’s fireworks
to discard bottles

Out of the city
me and the moon
shivering

White tea
the first buds
wrinkled now

Moon’s sickle
and shimmering Orion
too cold for bats

Silent snow flakes
clinging on bare trees
but snowdrops jingle

Chattering cranes
as they advertise
for ONE company

A witch’s cottage
offering homemade stews
no advertising

Thanksgiving
only the turkey
forgot the ritual

The scientist
lost his culture
in his cell culture

River kiosk
still selling refreshments
despite the wind

Hey! Teachers!
no brick in the wall
cheerful memories

After the harvest
scarecrow joins villagers
dancing merrily

Dried out pond
no frog to be seen
yet his mystery

Oh Lord, gimme this
or that, a Mercedes Benz
signed the Greedy one

You’re writin’ haiku
don’t think it’s cold or so, bro
it’s cool, Rock & Roll

Scarlet moon
dipping the meadow in silence
though one hand claps

Grass withering
and cicadas idle
but we work on the tan

On the porch
dripping from the roof
a summer evening

Sun on the sidewalk
heading for parasol’s shade
Auntie’s swollen legs

Summer still young
berries ripening
Oh! A yellow leaf
