Summer Ends Soon – Haiku

日暮鄉關何處是?
煙波江上使人愁。
黃鶴樓
崔顥
Beyond the setting sun, where might be my native land?
The mists on the river waves bring me to homesickness.
Yellow Crane Tower
Cui Hao

Inside the drawer
Mummified cockroaches
Crickets sing, though

Quarantine
Thoughts
Still flying

September evening
The campfire still glows
Tender closeness

Old village church
Three votive candles
Sparrows on the roof

Cool morning
Speedy greenfinch
Car studdering, though

Romantic veranda
Cat left a dead mole
I bury my hopes

Wind in the ivy
Then in the valley
Sparrows crossing

Thick clouds
Autumn rain approaching
Yet crickets chirp

Foliage season
Leaves heap
To be shuffled

The spiders
Enter the house
Byebye summer

Shorter days
Cozy fire place
Pumpkin still growing

Cui Hao (崔顥) lived from about 704 until 754. About 30 of his poems have survived. Four poem appear in the anthology 300 Poems of the Tang Dynasty. These are the last two lines of the poem Yellow Crane Tower, which was located on the Snake Hill of Wuchang (武昌蛇山), which nowadays is Wuhan (武汉市).
