Spring Rushing on – Haiku

兵衛森畫戟,宴寢凝清香。
海上風雨至,逍遙池閣涼。
煩疴近消散,嘉賓復滿堂。
自慚居處崇,未睹斯民康。
郡齋雨中與諸文士燕集
韋應物

The outside is guarded by armed soldiers,
Inside the smell of incence lingers.
Wind and rain from the sea reach up,
Cooling pond and pavilion alike.
The feverish heat is driven away,
While distinguished guests fill the hall.
In my high position I feel ashamed
As the common people lead an unhappy live.
A Banquet for Men of Letters in my Official Residence on a Rainy Day
Wei Yingwu

Dozing afternoon
Light falling through trees
Tea and a scone

Humming traffic
Light falling through trees
And a chat

Ruffled bedding
Storm churning the clouds
But summer’s fragrance

Looking at the truck
Giant oranges on the rear
But the bigger sun

As cherry blossoms
Fill the ground
Beauty in decay

Sunrise
The woman at the bus stop
Stares into the fog

No work finished
One car, one road, one home
Cathedral’s two towers

Wei Yingwu (韋應物) lived from about 737 to about 792). Twelve of his poems were included in the collection Three Hundred Poems of the Tang dynasty. He has also been the governor of Suzhou (蘇州), where he died.
