Lamaling is a
surprising name as the Chinese transcribe it Lamalin (喇嘛林)
and they distinguish lin and ling. Nevertheless the small monastery is
interesting. It had been burnt down in 1930 and later along with other
institutions during the revolution. It belong to Bayi district – just to get an
idea on the map (about 30 km south of Bayi).
Lamaling
Monastery belongs to the Nyingmapa sect, where the monks wear red hats;
literally the ancient sect. They have a lot of ritual deriving from the non-Buddhist
Bön religion of Tibet.
The main
building looks like a pagoda and is octagonal.
