Haiku for National Haiku Writing Month – February 2026 Second Half

 

National Haiku Writing Month has been founded by the well known haiku poet Michael Dylan Welch. The goal is to write at least one haiku a day. National Haiku Writing Month is in its 15th year. birds and sun 
vanish behind the horizon
coming home

ebb and flood 
they come and go 
we stay for a while

above the ice 
the flickering aurora 
and a green bear

the moon doesn't mind 
zenith or nadir /
why do we?
~ Zenith

getting older 
where is the zenith? 
always yet to come

to the faint glimmer 
of andromeda 
i wave hello 
~ Nebula

winter's solstice 
the night is shivering 
as we embrace
~ Solstice

the mud splashes 
on a quad through the quagmire 
the frogs just watch
~ Marsh

the marsh begins 
behind the elephant fence 
the herons fly there
~ Marsh

the wet basalt 
reflects the yellow street lights 
as the storm passes 
~ Basalt 

the entomologist 
and the woman in the dunes 
sand shifting

the fjords follow 
the plan of slarthy bartface 
we are told

across the fjord 
aurora borealis
a green lantern 
~ Fjord

summer evening 
total eclipse of the moon 
a village event
~ Eclipse

the crater 
is filled by rainwater 
and happy people
~ Crater

as time goes by 
water carves the canyon 
as do tears
~ Canyon

the mountain goat 
climbs at the edge of the abyss 
life without fear
~ Abyss
