Summertime Haiku

In the summertime when the weather is hot
You can stretch right up and touch the sky”
Mungo Jerry

(I should have quoted:
Chh chh-chh, uh, chh chh-chh, uh
Chh chh-chh, uh, chh chh-chh, uh
Chh chh-chh, uh, chh chh-chh, uh
Chh chh-chh, uh, chh chh-chh, uh”)

In the stroke unit
Caramel candy and teeth
On the bedside table

Merciless sun
On the withering grass
Still crickets sing

Stillness
Under the milkwood tree
Just enough

Drought season
The rainmaker unpacks
His equipment

The cleaning woman
Always airs the room
Good morning

Bullet train
Passing Mt. Fuji
Back to the notebook

Yes, yes
The squirrels and a
Dry forest

Brooding sun
Let’s bring lemonade
To the scarecrows

Moonlight
Fragrance of gillyflowers
We say nothing

Graveyard
Bell shadow on white wall
And an echo

Straw bales
Scarecrows shrugging
Let it rain

Summer rain
Rivulet running
Frog jumps, too

Hail storm yells
Green leaves on the ground
Then crickets chirp

Cherry blossoms
Tedious waiting, now
At least summer

Stumbled and fell
Got up again
Limping
