Prayer Flags

Prayer flags come in different styles and sizes. They are colorful and are used in the Himalaya region. The origin is believed to be Bön. The idea is that the wind takes the prayers and spreads them over the country. Prayer flags are placed on mountain passes and peaks. But you can also find prayer flags at rivers as to prevent flooding or at hillsides to prevent landslides, at bridges to prevent collapses. During the Cultural Revolution, prayer flags were discouraged but not forbidden; today you’ll find the red flag and prayer flag fluttering in unison.
