Wind
    der Wind
BeLebt
Die
Fahne
Und
Der
Odem
ErWeckt
Den
Ton
Zum
Leben
Die
Fahne
Muß
Trocknen
Und
Der Ton
    Muß
Feucht sein

Ewigkeit
    dies sind
Die
MühlSteine
Zwischen
Denen
Äonen
Zu
Jahren
GeMahlen
Werden
Und
Niemand
Trinkt
Vom
Blut
Der
Ewigkeit
Das von
    Den
Steinen rinnt

Der Zeuge
    nimm nicht
Den
Mond
Als
Zeugen
Wenn
Du
Von
Dunkelheit
Sprichst
Die
Dunkle
Seite
Des
Mondes
Ist auch
    Immer
Mal wieder hell

ZugabenTeil:

Sohlen

Schweigen
    weil Gott
Sich
So
Im
Schweigen
Übt
Sollten
Wir
Im Schweigen
    Eine
Tugend seh'n

VorBei
    da schritt
Der
Tod
An
Mir
VorBei
Und
Doch
Ich
Sah's
Ihm
An
Er dachte
    Schon
Ans WiederKehren

Erinnerung
    aus dem
Grau
Der
ElefantenhHaut
Blitzen
Augen
Nichts
Hat
Er
VerGessen
Wie sollte
    Er
Das auch?

Schatten
    der Rauch
Wirft
Schatten
In
Der
Sonne
Und
VerFlüchtigt sich
    Genau
Wie wir

Songs
The songs that used to bore us, why do they now move us?

Ride on the Styx
"Now it's going to get a little rough," said Charon. "Don't vomit or slug down. I can't offer you a replacement."

Wind
    the wind
Animates
The
Flag
And
The
Breath
Awakens
The
Clay
To
Life
The
Flag
Must
Dry
And
The clay
    Must
Be moist

Eternity
    these are
The
Millstones
Between
Which
Eons
Are
Ground
Into
Years
And
No
One
Drinks
The
Blood
Of eternity
    Oozing
From the stones

The Witness
    do not take
The
Moon
As
Witness
When
You
Speak
Of
Darkness
The
Dark
Side
Of
The
Moon
Is also
    Always
Bright again

Encore Part:

Soles
With calloused soles, like a camel's, I step onto the freshly scrubbed planks of the barge. Banks of fog drift past the island until they dissipate. Down in the sea, currents and fish move.

Silence
    because God
Practices
Silence
We
Should
See a
    Virtue
In silence

Passing by
    death walked
Past
Me
And
Yet
I
Saw
It
In
Him
He
Was already
    Thinking
Of returning

Memory
    from the
Gray
The
Elephant's
Skin
Flashes
Eyes
Nothing
Has
He
Forgotten
How could
   He
Have done?

Shadows
    the smoke
Casts
Shadows
In
The
Sun
And
Dissipates
    Just
As we

Odem
    als einmal
Der
Odem
In den
Ton
GeBlasen
Worden
War
Kam
Es
Wie es kommen musste
Der
Odem
Ließ
Sich
Nicht vom
    Ton
Mehr trennen

Im Garten
    der Stamm
Stemmte
Sich
Gegen
Zweige
Und
Blätter
Stiel
AbGe-brochen
Die Gräber
    Liegen
Noch brach

Ohne Gottes Hilfe

Schweigen
    dein Schweigen
Band
Mir
Hände
Und
Füße
Und
Aus
Meinem
Mund
Kam
Nur
Wirres
Zeug
Warum
Konnte ich
    Nicht
Auch schweigen?

Wüste
    wenn der
Leichte
Wind
Die
Schwarzen
Abayas
Flattern
Läßt
Dann
Meint
Man
Das
Flirren
Der
Luft
Über
Der heißen
    Wüste
Zu spüren

Zeichen
    in den
Stein
GeRitzte
Zeichen
Sprechen
Über
Die JahrTausende
    HinWeg
Zu uns

VerWeht
    im Sand
GeEndet
Sind
Wasser
Blut
Geschichte
Und die
    Spuren
Sind verWeht

Öl, Öl, Öl

    BuchEckern
Von
Kindern
GeSammelt
Und nie
    Zu
Öl gePresst
[3a]

In der Wüste
    vom Schwirr-
Holz
GeRufen
Durch
Wadi
Und
Wüste
Der Herr
    Gleich
Dem Knecht

Breath
    once the
Breath
Was
Blown
Into
The
Clay
It came as it had to come
The
Breath
Could
Not
Separate
Itself
From the
    Clay
Anymore

In the garden
    the trunk
Making
A
Stand
Against
Branches
And
Leaves
The
Stem
Broke
Off
The graves
    Lie
Dormand still

Without God's help
Of course, you can moisten clay with tears and then try to knead something, but what may come out of it without the breath of God?

Silence
    your silence
Bind
My
Hands
And
Feet
And
My
Mouth
Is
Oozing
Only
Incoherent
Trivia
Why couldn't
    I be
Silent too?

Desert
    when the
Light
Wind
Flutters
The
Black
Abayas
Then
One
Thinks
Of
The
Shimmering air
    Across
The hot desert

Signs
    carved in
Stone
Signs
Speak
Out
To
Us
About the
    Millennia
Gone by

Blown away
    in the
Sand
Water
Blood
History
Ended
And
Their traces
    Are
Blown away

Oil, oil, oil
    beech nuts
Collected
By
Children
And never
    Pressed
Into oil
[3b]

In the desert

    called by
The
Bull-roarer
Through
Wadi
And
Desert
The master
    Like
The servant

Omas Tipps
Klettere nicht an der SteilWand
Renne nicht vorbei am Rand der Klippen
Und steige nicht auf eine morsche Leiter

LupinenLicht

    das Licht
Der
Lupinen
Ist
Eine
Schlechte
Lampe
Es
ErLeuchtet
Nicht
Die
Nacht
Vielleicht
Aber bleibt
    Diese
Lieber dunkel

ErLeuchtung
Du hast die Fenster verNagelt
Den Raum mit schwarzem Samt verKleidet
Deine Füße und Hände hast du
In schwarze Tinte getaucht
Um deine Augen herum hast du
Schwarz mit Kajal geMalt
Schwarzer Schleierer
Und schwarzer Niqab
Und nun löschst du die Kerze

VerGangenheit
    laßt uns
Den
Herben
Wein
Des
Alters
Aus
StundenGläsern
Trinken
Und
Dann
VerWeilen wir
    In einer
Ewigen VerGangenheit

Gott
Ich
VerTraue
Dir
Diese
Stunde
An
Geh sorgsam damit um
Und
Gleich
ErGänzte
Er
Ach
Was
Ich gebe
    Dir
Ein ganzes Leben

Falsche Auskunft

Stunden
Stunde reiht sich an Stunde
Und es ist ihr egal
Ob es kalt ist oder nicht
Ob es langweilig ist oder nicht
Es stört sie nicht
Jede Stunde ist verSchieden
Noch hat es keine Stunde zweimal gegeben

Stille (eine Upanishade)
Auf Stille folgte Stille
Und weiter folgte Stille auf Stille
Und jede Stille verSchluckte die vorHerige Stille
Die stille blieb immer die Stille
Laßt uns in der Stille bleiben

Grandma's Tips
Don't climb the rock face
Don't run past the edge of a cliff
And don't climb a rotten ladder

Light of Lupines
    the light
The lupine
Is
A
Bad
Lamp
It
Doesn't
Illuminate
The
Night
But
Perhaps
It
Prefers to
    Keep
It dark

Illumination
You have nailed the windows shut
Covered the room in black velvet
You have dipped your feet and hands in black ink
You have painted black with kohl around your eyes
Black veil
And black niqab
And now you extinguish the candle

Past
    let us
Drink
The
Bitter
Wine
Of
Age
From
An
HourGlass
And
Then
Let us linger
    In an
Eternal past

Disturbed
I've forgotten how to sleep with my eyes open, and I keep opening them again when I cross the street. What's wrong with me?

Generosity
   thus spoke
God
I
Trust
You
With
This
hour
Treat it with care
And
Immediately
He
Added
Oh
What
I give
    You
A whole lifetime

False information
The caller wanted to know what we were doing. "We're standing around with flags." "Aren't you ashamed?!" "They're just alcohol flags." "That's just as bad."

Hours
Hour follows hour
And it doesn't matter
Whether it's cold or not
Whether it's boring or not
It doesn't bother
Every hour is different
No hour has ever been the same twice

Silence (an Upanishad)
Silence followed silence
And on silence followed silence
And every silence swallowed the previous silence
The silence always remained silence
Let us remain in silence

Fremden
Schrift
Tutet
Das
NebelHorn
Und da
Und dort
Knirscht
Es
Am
Hölzernen
Kahn
Wo
Er am
    Felsen
AnGestoßen ist

Vorsicht!
    dann heißt
Es
Vorsichtig
Sein
Wenn
Dein
SpiegelBild
AnFängt
Mit
Dir
Zu sprechen
    Oder
Deinem Schatten

BlutLeer
    blutLeer und
Blau
Sind
Deine
Lippen
Grau
Und
Kalt
Die
Haut
Und
Die
Augen
Liegen unter
    Der
GeKüßten Stirn

Stille

Wenn der Pfeil erst einmal abGeschossen ist
Steht die Zeit still

Schritte

Das Knirschen eines schweren Schrittes
Auf dem KiesWeg
Der Sand war längst entFlogen
Das Wasser verDunstet
Und der SonnenSchein entSchwunden
Wenn der Mann vorbeiKommt
Mit dem Wind im WeißDornBusch

SchallWellen
    SchallWellen
Die
Sich
VerLaufen
Haben
Im
Ohr
Des
Tauben
Kein RausKommen
    Und
Die GitterStäbe

VerWundbar / VerWunderbar
Dieser blaue Himmel
Immer weiter entfernt
Er sich vom Boden
Immer unerreichbarer
Die Ähre beibt zurück
Bis der Regen kommt
Bleibt sie verWundbar

These poems and texts were written during a trip through Saudi Arabia in November 2025. They may relate to the country and its people, but are often completely unrelated.

The inhabitants of the desert get by
Without images of the forests
Now and then they see their reflections
In a puddle
And behind them the blue sky
And around them the desert
With its sand
But also some green patches
From plants that survive

In the fog of writing

    in the fog
Of
Foreign
Writing
The
FogHorn
Sounds
And there
And
Over there
It
Creaks
On
The
Wooden
Boat
Where it has
    Bumped
Against the rock

Caution!
    you have
To
Be
Careful
When
Your
Reflection
Starts
Speaking
To
You or
    To
Your shadow

BloodLess
    bleedLess and
Blue
Are
Your
Lips
Gray
And
Cold
The
Skin
And
The eyes lie
    Beneath
The kissed brow

Silence
Once the arrow is shot
Time stands still
Just like the station clock
After it has moved a sec-____-
Ond onward

They say the eye of God sees everything -: What then?! Should God be a Cyclops? And why would God want to inflict all our adversities upon himself?

FootSteps

The crunch of a heavy step
On the gravel path
The sand had long since blown away
The water evaporated
And the sunshine vanished
When the man comes by
With the wind in the hawthorn

Sound waves
    sound waves
That
Have
Gone
Astray
Into
The
Ear
Of
The
Deaf
Find
No way
    Out -:
And the bars

Vulnerable / Wonderfully
This blue sky
Further and further away
It moves from the ground
More and more unattainable
The ear of corn remains behind
Until the rain comes
It remains vulnerable

BachKiesel
    all das
Wasser
Daß
Der
Bach
Seit
Meiner
Kindheit
Führte
Und
Alle
Kiesel
Im BachBett
    Haben
Eine Glatze

Apokalypse
    eine Lunte
Wurde
EntZündet
Und
Gift
Ins
Meer
GeSchüttet
Aber
Die
Apokalyptischen
Reiter
VerGnügen sich
    Fern
Von hier

Kamele
    vor den
Roten
SandDünen
Schiebt
Sich
Das
Grau
Des
Weißen
Dromedars
Vorbei
Warum
Sollte
Es
Auch
HochSteigen
Das tun
    Schließlich
Nur Kamele

Gut / gemein(t)
    gib mir
Diese
Eine
Träne
Von
Dir
Und
Laß
Mich
Sie auf
    Lösch-
Papier trocknen

Glanz
    der Glanz
In
Deinen
Augen
Auch
In
Tiefster
Dunkelheit
Kann ich
    Ihn
Noch spüren

Abschied
    vor langer
Zeit
Nahmen
Wir
AbSchied
Doch
Noch
Immer
Gellt
Mir dein
    Blick
Im Auge

Creek Pebbles
    all that
Water
That
Ran
Down
The
Creek
Since
My
Childhood
And
All
The
Pebbles
In
The creek bed
    Have
Bald heads

Apocalypse
    a fuse
Was
Lighted
And
Poison
Poured
Into
The
Sea
But
The
Apocalyptic
Horsemen
Enjoy themselves
    Far
From here

Camels
    in front of
The
Red
Dunes
The
Gray
Of
The
White
Dromedary
Passes
Why
Should
It
Climp
Up
After all
    Only
Camels do that

Well-intentioned / Vile enough
    give me
This
One
Tear
From
You
And
Let
Me
Dry it
    On
Blotting paper

Glimmer
    the gleam
In
Your
Eyes
Even
In
Deepest
Darkness
I Can
    Still
Feel it

Farewell
    a long time
Ago
We
Said
Goodbye
But
Your
Gaze
Still yells
    In
My eyes
