Monosodium glutamate (MSG) and aspartame in Fibromyalgia

I’ve just come across a study on “Monosodium glutamate and aspartame in perceived pain in fibromyalgia” by M.Y. Vellisca and J.I. Latorre. They tested “the effect of dietary elimination of monosodium glutamate (MSG) and aspartame on perceived pain in fibromyalgia.” And they found: “The discontinuation of dietary MSG and aspartame did not improve the symptoms of fibromyalgia.”
Cheeses like roquefort of parmesan are rich in glutamate as well as soy sauce, walnuts, and quite a lot of other foods, have a look here: http://nutritiondata.self.com/foods-000093000000000000000-1.html?
As MSG is even in brokkoli, how would you avoid it; so it wasn’t a real discontinuation. Any processed food contains MSG as it is used to produce umami, the mouth feel. Discontinuing processed foods might be a good idea, even if fibromyalgia isn’t a nutritional disease and discontinuation of dietary MSG and aspartame did not improve fibromyalgia in the study. Feeling better because of a better diet won’t harm anyone.
