Carpe Diem Haiku Tokubetsudesu No. 66 Teika's Ten Tanka Techniques by Jane Reichhold

The bakery van
Slowly on the icy road
Unnoticed a crow
Baker amidst the fresh rolls
Darkness to blend with morning

Bridge crossing the Rhine
With locks for eternal love
Where are the couples
The Rhine takes all the wishes
From the source to the ocean

Gazing at the moon
And inviting him for drinks
Li Bo reminds us
With the moon and your shadow
You will never be alone

  1. Three great examples of exquisitely written tanka .. I like the last one very much indeed. Bastet

  2. Truly enjoyed all three. Like that last line in the middle one.

  3. The moon and the shadow make the loneliness so elegant. Enjoyed each - picturesque

  4. Very nice triplet of tanka Lothar. That second is really awesome and fits the "love-poem" idea of tanka in a special way. Thank you for sharing.
