Haiku for National Haiku Writing Month – February 2023

 



National Haiku Writing Month has been  founded by the well known haiku poet Michael Dylan Welch. The goal is to write at least one haiku a day. National Haiku Writing Month is in its 13th year. [1] I enjoy writing to the prompts on Facebook. Here is more on how to take part [2].

snow is vanishing
the moon suppresses a yawn
bedtime for babies
~ bedtime

the alarm again
I get up
still too early for daybreak
~ daybreak

windy dawn
the fir trees ache
but the chickadees sing merrily
~ dawn

my clock – late
the crowing rooster – late
But I'm on time
~ crowing rooster

into the sunrise
driving straight forward
not minding the curve
~ sunrise

lonely snowflakes
then rain in the morning
and a cup of hot tea
~ breakfast

frosty morning
frail smoke from a chimney
the bus arrives slowly
~ morning

sunny morning
watching the frail smoke
from the veranda
~ morning

steam from our tea
evanescing into the mist
brunch with my cousin
~ brunch

steaming darjeeling
with a scoop of milk
and a Jane Austen novel
~ elevenses

high noon
crow against red kite
no winner
~ noon

an invitation
lunch with the parents
doggy’s grey, too
~ lunch

the midday demon
reaching out
but I take a walk
~ midday

naptime
only after changing
baby's nappies
~ naptime

snow covers the road
petting the cat
teatime, perfect
~ teatime

the cows and I
on a quiet afternoon
ruminating
~ afternoon

gloomy days
then sunshine
or happy hour
~ happy hour

frozen ground
three blackbirds hopping
no happy hour
~ happy hour
