Carpe Diem Haiku Shincha (新茶)

Path to the tea house
The honoured guests arrive
Viewing the moss

Guests wait
The silence is talkative
Tea kettle simmers

The wooden teahouse
With the kanji “prosperous” (華)
Waiting for the tea

Torn cherry blossoms
The lonely cry of wild geese
Warm tea on the porch

Swaying bamboo
Spring’s breath in the garden
Steaming teabowl

  1. An awesome post Lothar, I like the way you take us by the hand for a walk through the garden and towards the tea-house,.

  2. Wonderful poetry... I would like to take tea in a place like that once.

  3. aloha Lothar. your first ku "path to the teahouse" does if for me. it leaves me smiling to see the ritual and depth of the ceremony(s) around tea approached by—honored guests—another formal and solemn reference, noticing the everydayness wow of moss. i like the contrast. and the approach to that hallowed event full of reverence being preceded by this simple observing. i think this the essence of the moment succinctly brought out by this ku. cool. aloha
