Here in the Eifel Region I'm used to
cranes migrating south in fall and going back north in spring.
Yesterday I have been suprised by seeing some cranes using the
thermic here to gain altitude and flying onwards north.
There are about 9000 breeding pairs in
Germany, but usually not in the Eifel region but in the north like
Mecklenburg-Vorpommern or Brandenburg.
Lucky that I had been outside in the
garden.
