Tweetup EULAR 2012

Here is, what we have planned:

We have a social meeting at:
Gugelhof, 37 Knaackstrasse, 10435 Berlin
Wednesday 19:00 / 7 pm /
Link to the map: https://maps.google.de/maps?q=Gugelhof,+Knaackstra%C3%9Fe,+Berlin&hl=de&ie=UTF8&sll=50.488025,6.535442&sspn=0.017338,0.034847&oq=gugelho&t=h&hq=Gugelhof,+Knaackstra%C3%9Fe,+Berlin&z=15
If traffic is congested or you don't like taking a taxi/cab, the Berlin underground system is a good alternative, take line U2 to station Senefelder Platz, Gugelhof is about 150 m away.

And we have a scientific meeting at:
2nd floor between halls 3 (EULAR village) and 4 (Exhibition / Posters), where it's marked a on the map
Thursday 12:00-13:00

This is, how it developped:

There are a few problems, which I believe shouldn't be too difficult to solve. I'll update the text with suggestions, you'll be surprised about the colour coding. And the new summary at the end![5]

1. Date and time
One suggestion has been Wednesday, which has the charm of being the opening day, but also includes the risk that some people arrive too late to show up. Remember, the new airport of Berlin (BER) should have been operational from June the 1st, but the opening of the new airport has been postponed, so there might be some changes in your schedule. Most probably you'll reach Berlin via the old airports at Tegel (TXL) or Schönefeld (SXF) -: have a look at the press release: http://preview.berlin-airport.de/en/press/press-releases/2012/2012-05-08-safety-is-number-one-priority/index.php
One option would be late Wednesday, say 17:00 in the afternoon. @RonanTKavanagh suggested Wednesday PM; afternoon or evening, before or after Erdheim-Chester Disease. [1] Another time could be 09:45 in the morning on Thursday, that would be after the Satellite Symposia.  @zandbelt suggests some timepoint on the Thursday or Friday afternoon at some spot IN the exhibition halls would suit, then we all have 24h to find out where the best coffee specialities are being served and DO need it after morning sessions.[2]
Considering all said, it seems that Wednesday 17:00 more or less would be a good choice; early in the meeting, but enough time to reach Berlin. [3]
I venture for Ronan's new idea, let's meet in the evening 19:00 / 7 pm. We could still meet at the EULAR congress center later during the meeting. [4]
I propose the more medical meeting for Thursday noon. [5] I think we should call it scientific meeting. [10]
The Scientific Sessions end at 11:45, 11:45-13:30 is deemed for Poster Viewing and Lunch, so I think the best time for the tweetup meeting is: 12:00-13:00. This leaves enough time to reach the meeting and to go afterwards to where ever we want. [7]

2. Place
There should be ample room and it shouldn't be too complicated, meaning easy access for the ones who aren't looking for training opportunities to master the 5K Run.
Any suggestions? Here's the link to the map of the Congress Center: http://www.interactive-plans.com/clients/EULAR%202012/EULAR%202012%20Overview%20plan.pdf
I suggest on the 2nd floor between halls 3 (EULAR village) and 4 (Exhibition / Posters), where it's marked a on the map.
Let's meet at: Gugelhof, 37 Knaackstrasse, 10435 Berlin, wonderful German grub. Hearty, meaty. Alsatian, really, so almost French. I will check the location and give further details. At least I have been to Knaackstraße before. / Other suggestions for a meeting place at the Congress Center still hold, if someone doesn't or can't join us there. [4]
My cousin doesn't know Gugelhof. People writing about the restaurant are more in favour of the place (ambiente and food). Here's the link for the home page: http://gugelhof.de/pages/pages_e/index_e.html
I'm checking for vegetarian alternatives. [5]
If traffic is congested or cabs don't come, when you need one, the Berlin underground system is a good alternative, take line U2 to stop Senefelder Platz (and sing "One" by U2 if you like), Gugelhof is about 150 m away. [6]
Here's the link to the map: https://maps.google.de/maps?q=Gugelhof,+Knaackstra%C3%9Fe,+Berlin&hl=de&ie=UTF8&sll=50.488025,6.535442&sspn=0.017338,0.034847&oq=gugelho&t=h&hq=Gugelhof,+Knaackstra%C3%9Fe,+Berlin&z=15 [8]
Ronan has made reservations for a table of 10 people. Thanks, Ronan! [9]

3. Participants
Who's coming: Please complete the list by tweet or comment:
@_connectedcare @doctorakerkar @Larhumato @rajsengupta @rheuma_suffolk @Rheumatologe @rheumi_ @RonanTKavanagh @zandbelt (is someone on this list, who doesn't come?)
Who isn't on the list, doesn't matter if it's Wednesday evening or Thursday noon. [9]

4. Miscellanea
I've been in contact with EULAR Press Office (@EULAR_Press), they use #EULAR2012, but I think we should stick to own own hashtag #EULAR12 or use both if tweets aren't too long. EULAR home page: http://www.eular.org/congress_home.cfm

  1. Can I suggest that we simply set a venue and time and meet there? My preference would be early evening about 7pm. Some of us may not be at convention centre at 5pm (you can have too much of a good thing, as we say in Ireland). I think the emphasis should be on social as that is what brings us together - we can talk about rheumatology and hcsm too. Lothar, I would love to eat somewhere 'Berlinesque' if you can think of anywhere. EULAR 12 is shorter and easier as a hashtag. (Veroffentlichen means 'Post' I think)

  2. I have had a recommendation from a someone I know living in Berlin who's a writer. He has recommended the following place which is central.

"Gugelhof, 37 Knaackstrasse, 10435 Berlin, wonderful German grub. Hearty, meaty. Alsatian, really, so almost French."

Here's the link on the Map. Its not that close to the conference centre but seems close to centre. What do you all think?

  6. Hi all! Would love to see you there. I think that I am free then, if there's room for one more. If you think two more, I may have another epidemiologist come along (she is also a clinical person, as well as researcher). Let me know!

Also, I got confused following the various tweets...what is the final date/time? Are there multiple?

Looking forward to seeing you all again!

  7. We have a social meeting outside the congress on Wednesday evening and a more "official" meeting at the congress on Thusday noon. I'll put this on the blog later today.
And of course, both of you are welcome!
