"Fibromyalgia
can usually be cured in 3 months with a 5,000-year-old prescription from
Persia", says Michael Peuser in a communication to an article of a German physician’s
paper called ÄrzteZeitung (1). The communication does not refer to the
article, but Peuser advertises for his book. The German text: „Fibromyalgie
ist meist heilbar in 3 Monaten mit einem 5.000 Jahren altem Rezept aus Persien“
is not only textually wrong but also has grammatical mistakes.
A
"5,000-year-old recipe from Persia" is used with ingredients like the
leaves of Aloe arborescens Miller, honey and "sugar cane schnapps, or
whiskey, or vodka or Steinhäger [a grain alcohol]". Interesting, what kind
of stupid statements can be put into the world without contradiction.
"The
Persian Empire lasted from about 550 until 330 BC as the ancient Persian
kingdom of the Achaemenids and from about 224 to 651 AD as the Neo-Persian Empire
of the Sassanids with in between the Parthian empire (2); so we speak of 2500
years. With mentioning 5000 years of history they usually fail as scientific
history doesn’t verify this span of time. However, approximately 1400 years
later, a Persian, Abu Bakr Mohammad Ibn Zakariya al-Razi, was the first to produced
concentrated ethanol (ethyl alcohol) by distillation of wine (3), which we now
call brandy. And then one has to use leaves of the Aloe arborescens Miller,
which naturally occurs in South and South-East Africa (4). How would you have acquired
these leaves 5000 years ago?
I sum it up
for you: forget this idea with the 5,000-year-old recipe from Persia. If you
would like to know about the dangers of Aloe vera, you can start here (5). If
you are looking for an overview of fibromyalgia syndrome, look here (6).
