This Spring – Haiku

日暮東風怨啼鳥,落花猶似墜樓人。
金谷園
杜牧
At sunset the east wind carries the resentful cries of birds,
Fallen blossoms resemble the beauty, who jumped off the house.
Garden of the Golden Valley
By Du Mu*

Morning fog
Granny forgot her glasses
On the nose

Old plum tree
Shaking off the snow
Ready to bloom

Too bad
As for corona virus
No return to sender

Spring meadow
White death this morning
So pretty

Winter jasmine
Last night’s hoarfrost
Left some tears

Corona virus
The winner will be last
At the finish line

Kyoto temple
The first blossom to fall
An earthquake

Tibet's prayer flags
May the wind take the prayers
And find nirvana

Morning in gray
Crows still wear black
Headlights poking

Gusts of wind
Playing with cars
And the traffic news

Crowning their lives
With lack of social distance
Mourning has broken

A country drive
All shrouded in mist
Dad's everyday

Window shopping
Beggar sitting on the ground
Next window

New blossoms withered
During this last frosty night
Did not cry even

Stranded
Corona castaway
Salty tears

Mother’s 90th birthday
She loves daffodils
Used to

The night is broken
Frost has killed the flowers
Your fear did not break

Spring sunshine
A walk with the kids
Virus stays inside

Spring
Bright sunshine
Virus stays inside

Last leaf
Gone with the wind
No movie

Violet crocus buds
In the midst of fresh snow
Spring is a fraud

* Du Mu (杜牧) lived  from 803 till about 852. He is one of the major pots of the Tang dynasty and therefore we find his poems in the anthology 300 Poems of the Tang Dynasty.

Pictures:
1. Sunset at a beach in Sri Lanka 1976, overexposed, but with genuine dust on the slide, stored 40 years in the cellar.
2. Spring 2013 Higashiyama, Kyoto.
3. Spring 2021 about a kilometer off my home.
