Chiesa Stella Maris in Porto Cervo, Sardinia

Chiesa Stella Maris is little white church in Porto Cervo. Stella Maris is Latin  and means Star of the Sea, which is an ancient title for the Virgin Mary [1]. The church has been created by the architect Michele Busiri Vici in the 1960s and has been consecrated in1968 [2]. The church is a modern adaptation of ancient Mediterranean architecture, also called neo-sardinian style. Inside the church you may have a look at the painting of Mater Dolorosa, another name for the Virgin Mary, by El Greco. The huge bronze doors were sculpted by master Luciano Minguzzi and the names of the donors are written “ad perpetuam rei memoriam” on the back of the main door. Therefore let's not fail to mention Prince Aga Khan Karim, who donated the building plot for the church, which is considered an extremely valuable gesture of interreligious and ecumenical dialogue (“gesto di altissimo valore di dialogo interreligioso ed ecumenico”).
