Should we even talk about delays in international air
travel? Yes, we should, if there's a specific reason; otherwise, it's
just annoying, but something happened before the flight from Montreal
to Frankfurt (YUL-FRA) that deserves mentioning. I was a bit
impatient, or rather, tense, on a flight from St. John's,
Newfoundland, to Montreal (YYT-YUL) becausealready this flight had
been delayed. But, as it turned out, the excitement was completely
for nothing, because the next flight wasn't scheduled to begin
check-in for about 20 minutes. So there was plenty of time. Those 20
minutes delay stretched to over three hours. The culprit was a diaper
that had been put in a toilet and then got stuck in the system. So
inconvenient that it couldn't be removed immediately. Now, you'd
think that people who handle diapers daily, meaning parents and
especially older people, who wear diapers themselves, would know not
to put diapers in the narrow toilet drains on airplanes. But that's
what happened here. And an airline would have troubles converting
barf bags into poop bags. Hence the delay. Honestly, I'd rather
accept the delay on a roughly seven-hour flight than go without using
the restroom during that time. Still, delays are never pleasant.
