Haiku for National Haiku Writing Month – November 2023 Second Half



National Haiku Writing Month has been founded by the well known haiku poet Michael Dylan Welch. The goal is to write at least one haiku a day. National Haiku Writing Month is in its 13th year. longer nights
snow covered silence
... and dreams

don't hear
the music
dancing snowflakes
~ music

at the movies
backrow
you do the math
~ algebra

drops
falling from icicles
never to return

snow-capped mountains
reflected in the lake
don't cast a stone
~ mountain range / sierra

humming above
greenland's glaciers
solitude and peace
~ glacier



rose red
the canyon of Petra
with and without Jones
~ canyon or arroyo


stuck in the desert
the sun is setting
not the spirit
~ desert




into the desert
through an irrigation canal
white sand, however
~ desert




salt desert
hexagonal white slabs
and miles ahead
~ desert


kysylkum
no tree, no shade
outside the restaurant

silent clouds
crossing the cliff
roaring surf below
~ cliff or bluff

climate change
the coral reefs are dying
not my memories

the squab throttle
lured to the nest's rim
now fully fledged
~ bird nest

suddenly
a snore from the bear's den
a nightmare

a hornet nibbling
at the wooden fence
a growing nest
~ wasp nest



at the dam
contemplating if the beaver
generates power
~ beaver dam



busy mole in the garden
maybe it likes
adam and the ants
~ ant colony
