Ich war kürzlich im Gebiet von Hümmel unterwegs und da habe ich auch den RuheForst besucht. Ich hatte bereits über den Trostwald und den Begräbniswald berichtet [1]. Nun kommt ein neuer Begriff: RuheForst – also mit Großschreibung im Wort, wie ich es auch gerne mache. Alle Bestattungswälder bieten eine Alternative zum traditionellen Friedhof. Vielleicht ist beim RuheForst Hümmel etwas anders als bei den meisten anderen Bestattungswäldern [2]: er steht unter Totalschutz. Mit den Grabgebühren werden die Naturschutzmaßnahmen finanziert, „sodass jeder Grabkauf einen Beitrag zum Umweltschutz darstellt“.
Der RuheForst liegt 3,5 km von der Waldakademie von Peter Wohlleben entfernt [3]. RuheForst und Waldparkplatz liegen in Rheinland-Pfalz unmittelbar an der Landesgrenze zu Nordrhein-Westfalen, wo auch die Zufahrt liegt. Der Parkplatz liegt ein gutes Stück zu Fuß vom RuheForst entfernt, Aber man hat für Besucher immerhin eine Dixie-Toilette aufgestellt. Der Weg zum RuheForst führt am Wellbach entlang. Man kann den Verkehr der nahen Straße hören, aber da ist nicht viel Verkehr.
Für Hinterbliebene, die sich um Grabpflege nicht kümmern können, aber andererseits Ruhe und Einsamkeit zur inneren Zwiesprache benötigen, ist dieser Ort die richtige Wahl. Hier begegnet man niemanden mit einer Gießkanne oder Grablichtern, die natürlich im Wald auch nichts zu suchen haben.

I recently visited the area around Hümmel in the Eifel (a range of low mountains in western part of Germany) and also the RuheForst, which is located there. I had already reported on the Trostwald [literally consolation forest] and the Begräbniswald [literally burial forest] [1]. Now we have a new term: RuheForst - with capitalization in the German word, as I like to do it, but which isn't common to German. All funeral forests offer the same thing: an alternative to the traditional cemetery. Perhaps the RuheForst Hümmel is a little different than most other burial forests [2]: it is under total protection. The grave fees are used to finance nature conservation measures, “so that every purchase of a grave makes a contribution to environmental protection”.
The RuheForst is 3.5 km from Peter Wohlleben's Forest Academy [3]. RuheForst and forest parking lots are located in Rhineland-Palatinate directly on the state border with North Rhine-Westphalia, where the access road is also located. The parking lot is a good walk from the RuheForst; but at least a Dixie toilet has been installed for visitors. The path to RuheForst leads along the Wellbach, a small brook. You can hear the traffic from the nearby road, but there isn't much traffic.
This place is the right choice for bereaved relatives who cannot take care of grave maintenance but who, on the other hand, need peace and solitude for internal dialogue. Here you don't meet anyone with a watering can or grave candles, which of course have no place in the forest.
