* Wang Wei (王維) is a poet, painter, musician, and politician of the Tang period. He lived from 699 to 759 according to Wikipedia and also to my old textbook, which I used for a course in Tang poetry. Some people think his farewell goes to Men Hao-ran (孟浩然), but this is speculation.
