Three Kings – Haiku

野望
杜甫
西山白雪三城戍,南浦清江万里桥。
Viewing the wilderness from a distance
by Du Fu*
White snow on the western moutains and three frontier towns,
An endless bridge crosses the clear river to the south.

Fierce North wind
With fine grained snow
Cuddling together

Heavy snow fall
All I wonder about
Your handbag

Three is company
In the shrine
Or on stone

You can open

Locked doors with just one tool
The word please

Night with stars
The wind blows colder
Butterfly’s dream

Pouring rain
Redbreast seeks shelter beneath
Rain gutter

Dark morning
Still cold
And cold

Hefty gale
Crisp leaves in the air
And the baker’s bell

Wildernes
Dipped into fog
And snow begins to fall

* Du Fu (712-770) is one of the greatest poets of the Tang period [together with Li Bo (李白)]. Du Fu had written this poem in a thatched cottage near Huanhua Creek in the outskirts of Chengdu in the year 761. 1250 years later it's a park well within the city of Chengdu – with museum and a thatched cottage commemorating Du Fu.
